PostDoc Wanted!
This project is part of a wider programme coordinated by Frontier Climate to study ocean alkalinity enhancement (OAE).
The Cambridge team, including John Taylor in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP) and Oscar Branson in the Department of Earth Sciences, will build a high-resolution model of the near-field environment surrounding the site of the 2025 OAE field trial conducted by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. The team will work closely with Dr Adam Subhas and other colleagues to investigate potential alkalinity loss through secondary mineral precipitation. The simulations will also help assess sampling strategies.
Simulations will use Oceananigans.jl to represent physical processes at the field site and OceanBioME.jl to model how dissolving and sinking particles interact with seawater carbon chemistry. Experience in ocean modelling, particularly with Oceananigans, is highly desirable. Knowledge of seawater carbon chemistry and mineral formation/dissolution is desirable but not essential.
The postdoc will be based in Cambridge, UK, and will be expected to travel to the US for collaboration.

Logistical Details
